Media’s promotion of materialism has deepened the human-nature gap.

As a species, we have reached an evolutionary wall, our material powers have become so great that they are destroying the ecological foundations and we have entered a time of great reckoning.

The use of media to promote materialistic values has contributed significantly to the great divide between humans and nature.

We have developed speed, but we have shut ourselves in. Machinery that gives us abundance, has left us in want. Our knowledge has made us cynical. Our cleverness, hard and unkind. We think too much, and feel too little. More than machinery, we need humanity.”

Charlie Chaplin

Media has become humanities primary window into the world and the primary mirror in which we see ourselves.

Mass media that dominates our consciousness, tell us to buy more, while our ecological concerns for our planet tell us to consume less.

“The mass media have a responsibility to erse the damage that we have done to our planet and to boost the collective efforts of humanity as we move towards a more sustainable future.” – Paul Leisegang

By employing our already established communication infrastructure, media, information and communication technology (ICT), we may be able to raise the level of consciousness with regard to the continued existence of our species.
